Civic and Social Duties

Civic and Social Duties

Truth:

There are 3 components to Truth:

1. Agreement of thought and reality.
2. Eventual Verification.
3. Consistency of thought with itself.
TRUE:  What is true conforms to facts in accordance with experience.

Loyalty, trustworthiness, sincerity, genuineness, honesty. Truth is the source of the sovereign good of human nature. There exist Truth and Divine Truth.

Peace:

Free from character of force, violence, or trespass. Calm, gentle, silent, quiet, mild, pacific, serene, composed, undisturbed, amiable, friendly. As a matter of order.

Publisher’s Note:  Peace follows Love and Truth and is a pre-cursor to Freedom.

Justice:

A standing in retribution of actions taken and given. INTERNAL JUSTICE is the conformity of our will object of morality.

EXTERIOR JUSTICE is the conformity of our actions to the law and alone is the subject of human jurisprudence. The union of both makes perfect Justice.

Humanity: We all have been honored with humanity, endowed with speech, and placed in society to receive and confer reciprocal helps and mutual obligations, protection from injuries, to enjoy the comforts and the pleasures of life; all these we owe to the assistance of others, and could not enjoy but in the bands of society.

It is therefore our duty, to be a friend to mankind, as it is in our interest to be friendly.  As the rose breath sweetness from its own nature, so the heart of a benevolent man produce good works.

We enjoy the ease and tranquility of own breast, and rejoice in the happiness and prosperity of our neighbor. We open not our ear unto slander; the faults and the failings of men give a pain to our  heart.

Our desire is to do good, and we research the occasions thereof; in removing the oppression of another, we relieve ourselves.

From the largeness of our mind, we comprehend in our wishes the happiness of all men; and from the generosity of our heart, we endeavor to promote it.
